Conflict Bravery History

I created The Conflict Bravery™ Masterclass during my years as a nonprofit executive while simultaneously consulting school districts and leading in movement and organizing spaces — when it occurred to me that organizations needed a structured approach to navigate difficult conversations.

A consistent limitation for all of these spaces was their limited perception of Conflict — they could only see It in the harmful way our society shows it.

As a result, relationships were not nourished, feedback was surface-level, and there was a glass ceiling to the imagination. To see authenticity and honesty stifled in this way was alarming to me, to see the lack of bravery in spaces where bravery was needed the most, in spaces that were attempting to change systemic issues in our world.

How will we be able to confront inequitable systems if we can’t even confront the very people on our team about the things that will help move our work forward, about the things we need from each other to make our relationships have more depth and honesty?

From there, the Conflict Bravery™ program evolved into a program that helped people confront internal conflicts, interrelated conflicts, and conflicts with people and systems outside their community.

Typical Audiences

• Authenticity seekers who want to live life more honestly and courageously

• Community builders who crave deeper, more honest relationships

• Folks burnt out by surface-level connections and unspoken tension

• Educators who work to build just and connected classrooms lead courageously in serving students and families

• Co-founders and co-leaders navigating shared power and challenging conversations

• Organizers committed to building sustainable, accountable movements

• Nonprofit leaders who want to lead impactful teams and organizations

• Creatives looking to collaborate without compromising their voice or values

CONFLICT BRAVERY™

Meet the five conflict styles

There is no right style. Every one of them is a strength in the right moment. The brave work is noticing when your instinct is serving you and when it is quietly costing you.

Choose a style to see its strengths, what to watch for, and a brave practice.

Up: how much a style speaks up for your needs  ·  Across: how much it holds the relationship

AVOIDING

The Harmony Keeper

You’d rather keep the peace than pick a fight, so you often step back when tension rises. That restraint can be wise — but bravery sometimes means staying in the room when everything in you wants to leave it.

COMPETING

The Bold Advocate

When something matters, you say so — directly, without flinching. That conviction moves things forward and protects what’s right. The brave growth for you is making sure your strength leaves room for everyone else’s.

COMPROMISING

The Bridge Maker

You’re practical and fair — you find the middle ground fast and get people unstuck. That keeps things moving. The brave invitation for you is to slow down sometimes and reach for the solution that fully works, not just the one everyone can live with.

ACCOMMODATING

The Relationship Builder

You lead with generosity and you’ll bend to keep the people you care about close. That makes you a deeply trusted presence — and the brave edge for you is learning that your needs belong on the table too.

GROW YOUR BRAVERY

COLLABORATING

The Brave Collaborator

You lean into conflict as a doorway, not a threat — looking for the solution that honors everyone’s real concerns. That’s Conflict Bravery at its fullest. Your growth edge is knowing when not every disagreement needs the deep dive.

What if the way your team has been avoiding conflict… is the very thing keeping you stuck?

Workplaces have treated conflict like a malfunction in the system—something to de-escalate, redirect, or bury so everyone can “get back to work.” Yet the hard conversations we avoid are often the ones pointing most clearly to what people value, where trust is fraying, and what needs to change for the work to be sustainable.

The Conflict Bravery™ Masterclass invites your team to see conflict as a practice of care, not a performance of composure. This isn’t about perfecting scripts or enforcing “niceness.” It’s about strengthening your collective capacity to stay present in discomfort, name tensions directly, and navigate ruptures in ways that protect dignity, sharpen decisions, and keep relationships intact.

This intensive offering is for organizations and teams ready to stop treating conflict as a liability and start using it as a training ground for aligned action, shared accountability, and a culture where people can tell the truth and still belong.

Ready to stop shrinking from the conversations that matter?

For too long, conflict has been painted as the enemy of connection—something to avoid, minimize, or smooth over. But what if we’ve had it all wrong?

The Conflict Bravery™ Masterclass reframes conflict as one of care’s most honest expressions. This isn’t about winning arguments or mastering debate tactics. It’s about building the courage to show up authentically, speak truthfully, and navigate tension in ways that deepen relationships rather than damage them.

This training is for individuals and organizations ready to stop shrinking in the face of difficult conversations and start growing through them.

"The future depends on our ability to connect meaningfully to ourselves and each other."

Expert Facilitation That Creates Safe Communication Spaces

The workshops created a wonderful space for communication to happen. I was blown away with Altagracia’s ability to step in and out of a challenging conversation. Altagracia balanced pushing and supporting in a way that kept leaders accountable but not too uncomfortable that they couldn’t participate.

BGE Appreciation

I am feeling so grateful for all of you and the energy and space that we’ve shared. Altagracia love your BGE and could not imagine this garden without you tending to it. I feel so cared for by y’all and it’s funny how even though we don’t see each other in person or that often I feel such comfort and safety with this group. Thank you all for what you’ve been able to give to this space.
